From the time you check-in to the hospital for an evaluation or preparing for your delivery, you will be met with compassionate and caring nurses who will be at your side throughout labor and delivery. Additional resources available to new parents include:

After delivery, a lactation consultant is available to provide assistance with breastfeeding. Our support and guidance continues even after you leave the hospital, with our nurses and staff available to assist with any additional questions and concerns you have when you return home. Breast pumps are available to our patients.

Our Facilities:

Our neonatal intensive care unit
is a Level 2, eight-bed unit. The NICU is equipped to care for newborns born at 30 weeks gestation and older. The on-call neonatologist is in-house 24/7. Our neonatal nurses are highly-skilled with extensive training and experience in providing compassionate care to newborns.

Recently renovated facilities: (insert hyperlink to video on renovated maternity unit on current website) Both the labor and delivery unit and postpartum unit were newly renovated in 2012. This upgrade enhanced our five-room labor and delivery unit, making them even more comfortable and inviting for birthing moms and their support. This renovation also increased the number of private rooms in our postpartum unit. There are also two operating rooms designated for deliveries only, and a separate recovery room for women who have undergone delivery via cesarean section. Each beautifully renovated room has its own bathroom and shower, making the postpartum experience much more comfortable and intimate.

Rooming-in for new mothers: Evidence shows that non-separation of mothers and newborns is the standard of care. Our new renovation has allowed for a family-centered model of care, supporting non-separation from delivery to discharge.

Baby-friendly hospital: St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center is on the pathway to becoming certified as a Baby-Friendly Hospital, a designation which was established by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Additional Postpartum Services:

  • Infant Care and CPR classes for parents.
  • Lactation Support class, which is facilitated by a registered nurse who is a certified breastfeeding counselor.
  • Mothers' Circle of Hope: Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder Support Group (hyperlink to brochure) A postpartum support group for women who suffer from depression. This group can facilitate additional support from a great network of available providers who help assist in caring of the new mother and newborn. Please call (631) 870-3444 to register or email postpartumsupport@chsli.org.

Gyneoclogical Services:

In addition to our exemplary obstetrical services, we have highly skilled providers who provide top gynecological care to women of all ages. St. Catherine of Siena is equipped with the da Vinci robotic surgical system, allowing providers to perform complex surgeries using pinpoint precision and advanced techniques to improve patient outcomes in a minimally invasive fashion. Advanced laparoscopic techniques are also utilized to decrease in-hospital patient stays and improve recovery times.
