Colon and Rectal Program
We provide the latest in Colorectal Surgery Laparoscopic Surgery, also called Minimally Invasive Surgery. These procedures use a special fiber optic camera, called a laparoscope, to visualize the interior of the abdominal cavity. Rather than making one large incision, as is done in traditional surgeries, several tiny (5-10mm) incisions are made through which the laparoscope and several small, specially designed surgical instruments are inserted. This technique allows our surgeons to perform the surgery using precise, detailed images from inside the abdomen which are projected onto a screen. Minimally invasive Colon and Rectal surgery is not only less invasive than traditional surgery, it has been shown to have better outcomes, less pain, less time in the hospital, and is just as good, if not better for colon cancer patients.

Colonoscopy is a procedure used to view inside the colon and rectum to detect abnormalities, such as polyps, inflamed tissue and ulcers as well as cancers. Colonoscopy allows physicians to identify early signs of colorectal cancer and can help diagnose unexplained changes in bowel habits, abdominal pain, bleeding from the anus, and even weight loss.
Problems with your colon, rectum, and anus can cause immense discomfort, and discussing this problem with your doctor can be an even more uncomfortable experience. However, as colon cancer is among the nation’s leading diseases, early diagnosis and treatment is important. The physicians at St. Catherine’s are readily available to help you through the process, and will do so in confidence. Your peace of mind is our first concern.
